Covid-19 Community Kitchen Initiatives at Thali
Dhamma Thali despatched its first batch of lunch food packets for 250+ migrants, homeless and Covid-warriors on Apr-15, 2020. A food packet typically comprises 5 chapatis, a vegetable and a piece of pickle
Around April 1, 2020, the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi, made an appeal to FCRA registered organizations to aid and supplement Government and local administration efforts to contain and manage the Covid-19 pandemic. When an article appeared in the Times of India newspaper, giving contact details of the local Covid-war-room in the Jaipur Collectorate, Dhamma Thali made an offer to set up a Community Kitchen to help the migrants and homeless and finally got the local Administration’s approval to prepare the food packets daily.
Prior to beginning this initiative, those at Dhamma Thali (cooks, helpers, drivers, gardeners, office staff & servers) assembled and listened to the Principal Teacher’s discourse on ‘Kalika Dana’ (delivered on the occasion of the Bhuj earthquake) and mentally resolved to develop themselves in both, kalika dana and the dana of Dhamma.
This initiative continued for 41 days till May 25.
